Robert Wenig

Robert Wenig passed away on August 27, 2021 and is survived by his wife Mayona Wenig, daughter Doris Winter and her husband Jeff, three grand children, one great grand daughter, his sisters Diann Weidhaas, Karen Partridge (Steve), six nieces and one nephew. He is preceded in death by his sister Joann Wood and 2 nephews Christopher and Antonio.Bob was born in North Philadelphia on 17th street and attended Holy Child School and Cardinal Dougherty High School. He was drafted into the Army and served in Vietnam from 1968 - 1970 and received numerous medals; Sharpshooter M-14, Marksman M-16, National Defense Service, 2 OS Bars, Air Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, Good Conduct, Combat Infintry Badge, Civ Act Hon Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was a good cook and also enjoyed being out in the yard tending to his flowers. He was a man with many talents. He could build anything. I used to tell him he could build a house and make it walk and talk. He liked to go to the winery with our friends and taste test then sit and listen to the music. Most of all he enjoyed living his life on his terms. He was born in the wrong era. He was very western from the hat to the boots. He would have been a great cowboy. When the tide was out he could walk the boat across the bay to our deck. He took alot of ribbing from our neighbors. They would ask him when he was going to take the boat for a walk.. he was a character. Once while he was having a field vision test done for his eyes, that's where he had to press the button everytime he saw the light flash, he fell asleep. We laughed so hard, the technician never had any one fall asleep doing this test.He was a very kind and caring person. He loved his family and he had a great love for animals. He held up traffic more that once to make sure the turtle in the street got to the side into the grass safely.. He fed the stray cats if they were hurt he took them to the vet. One Veterans Day he received a free meal from McDonalds which he gave to a lady living in her van with her 2 small dogs. He had a boat when we were in Manahawkin NJ. The motor broke down every time he took it out.He was a kind, gentle, caring man who would do anything for any one. If you needed it and he had it, you got it. Here's to you my funny, fun-loving husband, a man with a huge heart and smile to go with it. You are missed and loved by your family and friends. Until we are together again, Forever My Love.Relatives and friends are invited to gather on Saturday August 20th at 12 noon at McCafferty Sweeney Slabinski Barnes Funerals and Cremations 6126 Torresdale Avenue. Bob's religious service and military honors will begin at 1 PM and his luncheon will follow on Saturday afternoon after the funeral.
