Robert Ernest Plunkett, sr.

Robert Ernest Plunkett, Sr., of Philadelphia, died on Dec. 29, 2020. Mr. Plunkett was born on August 4, 1933 and lived nearly his entire life in Northeast Philadelphia. He was a graduate of Northeast High School and was then drafted into the United States Army. While in the Army, Mr. Plunkett served in Panama during the Korean Conflict. After his service, Mr. Plunkett worked tirelessly for Philadelphia Gas Works from 1956 until he retired in 1995.

Mr. Plunkett was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and Alexander Plunkett, his beloved wife of 53 years, Lorraine (Whalen) Plunkett, and his son, Terrence Plunkett. He is survived by his son Robert E. Jr., daughter Colleen (Robert) Kopycienski, son Shawn W., and son Patrick A. (Susan), and daughter-in-law Kim. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren Robert, III (Kim), Michael, Terry (Jenelle), Justin, Erin (Angela), Robert (Brittany), Ryan, Jenna, Shawn, Jr., Laine, Evan, Hill and Alice. And, he is survived by six adoring great grandchildren, Bobby, Nicholas, Teagan, Jaxon, Logan and Hunter.

When he wasn't working or spending time with his large family, Mr. Plunkett was an active and lifelong member of the American Legion Post 810, where he was formally recognized for his outstanding volunteer service. Mr. Plunkett served members by helping represent the United States Military at many funerals, memorials and veteran services over the years.

www.archbishopryan.com. Mr. Plunkett's five children and several of his grandchildren graduated from Archbishop Ryan High School.

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing
on Wednesday January 6th from 8:30 AM to 10 AM
at TJ Fluehr Funeral Home and Cremation Service,
11010 Knights Road. Following his viewing, we will be heading directly to Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown, PA, for Mr. Plunkett's outdoor religious service, military honors, and burial. (Outdoor services begin
at 11 AM precisely. All are welcome to attend.)

If you are planning to head directly to the cemetery, please meet us at the main office just inside the cemetery entrance
at 10:45 AM.

Attendees should wear masks and observe social distancing guidelines during the viewing and outdoor funeral service.
