Lucille Joanne Vandenburg (nee Malkoski)was born on February 9, 1948 andpassed away on September 6, 2019 at age 71.
Lucillewas the devoteddaughter of the late Joseph and Wanda Malkoski.Theloving wife of 51 years of John, cherished mom of Michele (Brian) and Wendy.Thedear sister of Loretta Wickizer (late Donald), Joseph Malkoski (Janice), Barbara MacFarland (John) and the late Robert Malkoski (Karen). Lucille is survived by many loving nieces and nephews, Donald Wickizer, John MacFarland (Tiffany), Stephanie Davis (Dave), Melissa Larrea (Steve), Tiffany Shrenk (Denny), Justin Malkoski, Cindy MacFarland the late Michael McHugh and the late Anthony Malkoski; great nieces Rayna, Colette, Sophia, and Violet and her great nephews Luke and Logan. She will be lovingly remembered by a host ofotherfamily members and friends including her adopted daughter Stacey and son Cameron.
Lucille had a full life. Lucilleproudlybecame the first within her family to graduate from college, earning an associated degree in Early Childhood Education. She worked as a nursery schoolteacher at St. Marks, taught 5-year-old children at the Salvation Army day care and she worked for the School District of Philadelphia as a classroom assistant, then as a head teacher in the Comprehensive Day Care Program. Lucille was an active member of the Women's Auxiliary at Simpson AA where she had also coached girl's softball. She had also taught CCD at St. Joachim's.
Lucille had many interests. She loved cooking and baking, especially her sweets. She had a passion for travel and cherished her annual trip to the Outer Banks. Lucille was an avid reader and appreciated the arts. She attended the theater, ballet and the opera; in fact, there were many late nights one could hear opera being sung through the living room television for hours.
Lucille adored the holidays. She loved the tradition that each holiday brought. She found pleasure in the preparations such as cooking and decorating, as well as the celebration which included hosting family and friends. Her most beloved holiday was Easter. She happily spent days making candy (peanut butter, coconut and butter cream eggs), breads and desserts. Then, she spent hours preparing a lavish Easter Brunch including the homemade bread she took to church to be blessed the day before. Every family member and friend in attendance, felt the love Lucille showered them with, through her delicious cooking.
Friend and relatives are invited to celebrate her life on Friday September 13that 9 am in Holy Innocents Church 1337 E Hunting Park Ave. The viewing will be from 9:00 AM 10:30 AM in church and the funeral mass will begin at 10:30.
