Jane Petrella

Jane Hourigan Petrella Loved New Jersey, Ford Mustangs, and Andes mints Jane Hourigan Petrella, beloved wife, mother, child, sister, and lover of dogs of all persuasions, was born on May 1, 1952, in Somerville, N.J., and passed away from complications from metastatic breast cancer on Jan. 30, 2017. She is survived by her husband, George, five siblings, four children, six grandchildren, and her kitty, Franco, all of whom she loved a lot. Jane had many quirks, all of which made her unique, including her love of New Jersey, her obsession with 1964 - 1/2 Ford Mustangs, and her addiction to Andes Chocolate Mints. Jane was a very talented artist, seamstress, and crochet worker. She gifted many people over the years with her famous doilies, and made her daughter's wedding dress to perfection. She was always generous, as many people can attest, and was a devout Christian who loved Sunday worship and singing hymns. Though Jane was generally quiet, she could be feisty and opinionated. She also had the most amazing blue eyes. She worked for her church's after-school program and very much loved the kids, one of whom asked if it was possible to see out of her blue eyes. For many people, Jane was an amiable, calm and, above all, benevolent presence, and she will be sorely missed. We like to think of her riding off in her dream Mustang playing the alto saxophone, and crocheting doilies for all and sundry. Ride on, Jane! In lieu of flowers, please send gifts to the After School Program of New Life Philadelphia, 425 East Roosevelt Blvd., Philadelphia, Pa. 19120, newlifephilly.net. Jane worked for the ASP and loved the kids dearly.
