O'Connor James W. "Oakie" "Jim" Was a loving husband to the late Winnie, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He left this world peacefully on July 27, 2022 to join his soulmate, Winnie. He was born February 14, 1935 to Andrew and Catherine O'Connor. He was sibling to the late John (Barbara) and the late Ellen Callahan (Joseph). He is survived by his sister-in-law Regina Shank (William) and pre-deceased by in-laws Patricia McIntyre (Robert) and John Callahan (Juanita). Jim married the love of his life Winnie on June 5, 1954. Together they had four children, James (Kathleen), Gerard (Denise), Maureen Schindle (David) and Sharon McIntyre (Joe Kilian). Jim was a commercial union printer who rose through the ranks of the Philadelphia Typographical Union #2 and Printing, Publishing and Media Workers Sector of CWA #14199. Jim became Secretary Treasurer of Typo Union #2 in 1966, serving that post until becoming President in 1984. He held the President position until his retirement in 2006. Also, he held the position of Secretary of the Philadelphia Council of Newspaper Unions. Jim loved the title of "Poppy Oakie" and spending time with his nine grandchildren: Jimmy, Jerry, Bridget, Christopher, Katie, Bryan, Colleen, Matthew and Carly and five great grandchildren, Ava, Liam, Martin, Elsie and Connor. Jim loved to spend time at his beach house in North Wildwood, NJ for the last 52 years and traveling to St. Pete's Beach, Florida. Throughout his life, Jim loved spending afternoons in the Fishtown Tavern with the O'Connor clan, the Phillies and Notre Dame football. He traveled to South Bend with his sons and grandchildren to watch many games. He loved to play practical jokes on his nieces, nephews and friends. Relatives and friends are invited to his Viewing on Thursday morning August 4, 2022 from 9:00 – 11:45 A.M., St. Jerome's Church located at 8100 Colfax Street, Philadelphia PA 19136. His Funeral Mass will follow at 12:00 P.M. and his Interment will at Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, your donations to St. Jerome Parish would be greatly appreciated by Jim's family.
