George Robert Mulligan

George Robert Mulligan passed on Saturday, July 31st, 2021. He recently celebrated turning 65. George was born in Huntington, New York to Anna Welsh and George William Mulligan and grew up in Smithtown, NY. George attended SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry at Syracuse. He received a master's degree from Virginia Tech in Urban and Regional Planning with an Environmental Focus. He also received an MBA from William & Mary in 1991. George accepted a position with the Allegheny Health System as a fellow and traveled to Philadelphia where he met his wife, Debbie, on a blind date in Logan Square. He stayed in the Montgomery County area working for Montgomery County Community College and later for Temple University as the Director of Capital Budgeting. Although quiet in nature, his presence filled the room. George was the happiest and smartest man in every circle. He loved music, numbers, animals, history, sports, gardening, grilling and the list could go on forever, but quite possibly his most important interest was his feline friends, Flynn, Carter, Sam, Sugar, Sunny, Sasha, and Johnny. Whatever his family was interested in became his new passion. George had plans that included retiring on the Eastern Shore, traveling to Spain, visiting New Orleans, opening a restaurant, and restoring a vintage car. George served as the moral compass of his family and he worked hard to instill his best qualities in them. He would be proud to know that his family will carry on being kind, loving, caring, and respectful people. George loved deeply and without bounds. George's investment in all of our communities (Cheltenham, La Salle, Little Flower, Center School and Temple) provided guidance to many. He married his wife, Debbie, in 1994 and welcomed the arrival of their daughter Daron in 1995 and Sean in 1997. He welcomed Valerie and Christopher into our family in 2001. In addition to his immediate family, George is survived by his brother William, his sisters Virginia Sweeney and her husband Jim, Janet Williams, Connie Schulze, and Carol Jones and her husband Burt. The celebration of George's life will be held on Friday, August 6th at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church at 109 E. Price St, Philadelphia, PA 19144. Guests are invited to arrive by 9:15 and the service will begin at 9:30. Parking is located on E. Price Street or around the corner on Rittenhouse Street.
