George Cowan

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of George J. Cowan, 58, of Philadelphia, who left this world far too soon on October 16, 2025. George was a devoted son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend.

George is the beloved son of Carol A. Cowan (nee Payne) and the late Daniel F. Cowan, Sr. George will be profoundly missed by his devoted siblings, Lynn Ann Cowan (Gerald), Daniel F. Cowan, Jr., (Diane) Mary Beth Dimmick, (Donald) and Christopher Cowan; his dear nephew Zachary Dimmick and his niece and Goddaughter, Emily Dimmick. George is also survived by a large extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends who cherished him.

George was born on August 15, 1967, and was raisedin the Frankford/Oxford Circle section of Philadelphia. He was a graduate of Frankford High School and played sports for the Frankford Boys Club. He brought laughter and joy to many friends and family who affectionately knew him as “Georgie.”

George was a devoted son to his mother, who he frequently visited and assisted, and was an unwavering source of love. He loved his family more than anythingand cherished the time spent with them and especially loved being with his family during the holidays and on special occasions.

George was a dedicated Philly sports fan who loved to watch and attend Eagles, Phillies and Flyers’ games with his family and friends. George preferred to listen to sports radio rather than watch TV shows or moviesand he loved going up the mountains with his brother Danny to take in the mountain views and fresh air. George also loved to play golf and travel and was fortunate to have traveled throughout the United Statesand multiple countries, in Asia and Europe.

George’s kindness, loyalty, and unwavering love for his family and friends and the things that brought him joy and laughter will never be forgotten. His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family and friends,and he will be dearly missed.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate George’s life at his viewing on Friday October 24th from 9:30 AM to 11 AM in St. Christopher’s Church 13301 Proctor Road Phila., PA. His funeral mass will begin at 11 AM.
