Dorothy Weiss

d. May 27, 2026

Philadelphia

It is with heavy hearts and deep love that we announce the passing of Dorothy F. Weiss, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Dorothy passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at the age of 84. Born on November 19, 1941, she lived a life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering dedication to her family and friends.

Dorothy proudly graduated from Little Flower High School for Girls, Class of 1958. She later married the love of her life, George W. Weiss Sr., and together they built a home filled with love and happiness in Northeast Philadelphia. Married for 43 wonderful years before his passing on September 7, 2007, they shared a bond and devotion that inspired everyone around them. Dorothy was an exceptional mother whose love and support exceeded anything her children could have hoped for.

Dorothy worked at several places throughout her career, including Theresa Friedman and Sons and Abington Bank, where she built cherished friendships and collected fond memories that stayed with her throughout her life.

She is survived by her devoted daughter, Dottie (Daniel); adoring sons, Stephen (Christina) and George Jr. (Nicole); her treasured grandchildren, who filled her with immense pride and joy; and her two sweet great-granddaughters, who never failed to bring a smile to her face. Dorothy also leaves behind many beloved brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Dorothy Harvey, and her sisters, Nancy Hoffman and Patricia Harvey.

Dorothy found joy in many activities, including bowling, a pastime she pursued despite arthritis. From fun-filled family nights at Erie Lanes to playing well into her 80s with "The Breakfast Club" at Pike Lanes in Southampton, PA, bowling was a source of companionship and happiness. She was also an avid member of the Maternity B.V.M. Seniors Club, where she loved participating in meetings, socials, luncheons, and trips, maintaining close friendships even when she could no longer attend.

In quieter moments, Dorothy enjoyed reading, watching Hallmark movies, savoring a good cup of coffee (and occasionally a glass of wine), listening to Motown and other great music, and winning big on the slot machines — all with her radiant smile that warmed every room she entered.

Though her loss is deeply felt, Dorothy would not want tears to overshadow the joyous memories shared. She encouraged everyone to celebrate the good times and continue her legacy of kindness, compassion, and love. By emulating her caring spirit, we can keep her alive in our hearts and honor the once-in-a-lifetime person she was.

Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Dorothy’s life on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, beginning with visitation from 9:15–10:15 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass at Maternity B.V.M. Church, 9220 Old Bustleton Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19115. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Grace Cemetery, 1215 Super Hwy, Langhorne, PA 19047.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial contributions in Dorothy’s memory to SERVICE DOGs for Vets (canine.org). Dorothy loved all animals, especially her German Shepherd, Rocky, and her Belgian Malinois, Dutch.
